At night I asked my mother about my father. She said: he went to the war and did not come back. I said: when will he come back? She said, a little sharply: he died, Galal. Died. Died.

Der muslimische Jude
Der muslimische Jude
My son, Moses and Muhammad are brothers. We will raise you, teach you and bring you up, and after that you are free: if you want to enter our religion, welcome a thousand times; if you want to stay a Muslim, you are free, and we are still your family.
Der muslimische Jude
Don't you know, my love, that we are Jews and our book is the Torah? We, Galal, are one thing and they are another.
Der muslimische Jude
Little by little I began to build a world of my own, with secrets in it; I might hear a single word about my father and raise from it a whole edifice in my imagination to wander in.
