“Israel is not my country. Maybe it’s Isaac’s country, or the girl Rachel’s, or even Shimon’s. But me!”

Diary of a Jewish Muslim
I tell myself: if I lived here my whole life, what would I do among these fair, pale people in their tall thick-leather boots and their hats? Two schoolgirls pass in front of me, and my heart wanders off toward the Daher district and Abbas Street.
Diary of a Jewish Muslim
We did not learn of my father's death until a month after it happened.
Diary of a Jewish Muslim
At night I asked my mother about my father. She said: he went to the war and did not come back. I said: when will he come back? She said, a little sharply: he died, Galal. Died. Died.
