I reckon God has decreed that I die in this foreign country, so, my son, I beg you by God not to leave me alone here. Take my body back to Egypt; we have a tomb there in al-Basatin, ask for it, the tomb in the name of my father Ishaq al-Azra'; its key is enclosed with this letter. Do whatever you can: go to the embassy, send a telegram to the minister, to the president, to anyone; tell them that Zaki al-Azra', the dead stranger, wants to come home.
Aus dem Roman Tage in der Diaspora · Kapitel 35 · Zaki al-Azra' (grandfather), in his last letter, dated 7 January 1985
