وكانت لنا صورة معًا بالأبيض والأسود أسفل زجاج التسريحة، هي بثوب بلا أكمام وأنا في حجرها، فعلت المستحيل لتخرجها من موضعها غير أن الصورة أبت، فبفعل الزمن أمسكت بالزجاج وصارا كُلًّا واحدًا.

There was a black-and-white photo of us together under the glass of the dressing table—she in a sleeveless dress and I in her lap. She did the impossible to prise it out, but the photo refused: with time it had gripped the glass and the two had become one.
