About the novel
Through the eyes of the boy Ali and the stories of village shops closing their doors one after another, the novel traces how a rural community and the ties between its neighbours change over time: the grocer, the barber, the old signboards. The last novel published before “The Sergeant’s Misfortune”, longlisted for the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel in 2023.
