Die Welten von Kamal Ruhayyim

Who are you, boy? And whose son? Mahmoud Effendi who planted your seed, or Zaki al-Azra' who took you in and raised you? To which branch do you belong now? Can they make a finger, or even a nail paring, of someone who loves you as your grandfather did?

The tarboosh, there, shut away in a dark wardrobe; and he, here, like a dead man in a lodging where the air is stale and damp, with no world of his own in the great world he lives in, Paris that they call the city of light, except a bed, a bathroom and a table where he gulps down his food whenever they call him.
